Kini
Kini is a small village of southern Chios. It had all the characteristic traits of a medieval settlement but was completely destroyed by the earthquake of 1881, so its medieval character was ultimately lost. Compared to the size of its population, Kini was the village with the largest number of human victims in 1881. At the moment of the earthquake, a real estate auction was taking place inside the Genoese tower and most of the villagers were gathered there. Out of 487, 175 were killed. The central church of the village is Zoodochos Pigi, built in 1879.
